Best Truck Bed Liners (2026): 4 Picks Reviewed

How we researched this guide

We compared the 3 DIY truck bed liners with verified retail listings (U-POL Raptor, Herculiner and Husky Liners) plus one tailgate add-on, checking each maker’s spec sheet, TDS and fitment data — mix ratios, coverage ratings, cure windows and warranty terms — against 7 owner threads and 5 independent roundups. Every ASIN was verified against a real Amazon listing URL in an independent third-party source; none were invented.

No hands-on testing is claimed anywhere in this guide. Maker claims are written as “rated to”, and owner experiences are paraphrased from the linked threads and roundups. Where a maker has not published a figure — for example, warranty terms on the two coating kits — we say so instead of guessing.

The 30-second answer

For a weekend spray-on project, the U-POL 0820 Raptor 4-liter kit is our top pick: a 2K urethane system with fill-shake-shoot bottles, rated coverage of 125 sq ft per gallon, and a full cure rated at 5–7 days. With no compressor, the Herculiner HCL1B8 brush-on kit covers a 6-ft bed from one gallon and cures fully in a rated 24 hours. For reversible protection with zero cure time, the Husky Liners 16008 custom-fit mat (2015–2026 F-150 5’7″) carries a Limited Lifetime Warranty. Add the Dee Zee DZ86700 tailgate mat (.375-inch rubber, hardware included, 3-year warranty) for the loading edge.

Bed liners come in three forms — spray-on, brush/roll-on, and drop-in — and the right one depends on your tools, your weekend, and your truck. Start with the Truck Bed Liners hub, then use the picks below.

Bed liner picker: which pick fits your truck and your weekend?

Pick the liner style that sounds like you, then add your bed length if you know it. Every result points to a product from this guide — no dead ends.

How to choose a truck bed liner

Match the liner type to your tools

Spray-on kits like the U-POL Raptor need a compressor (an F-150 Lightning owner managed with a small 6-gallon unit) and a schutz gun, which is included in the 4-liter kit. Brush-on kits need nothing more than rollers and elbow grease. Drop-in mats need no tools at all. If you already run a winch setup, our best winch for pickup truck guide covers gear that shares the same weekend-project slot.

Size it to your bed

U-POL rates its 4-liter kit at 125 sq ft per US gallon of mixed material — enough for a full-size pickup bed in one kit. Herculiner rates one gallon for a single 6-ft bed and explicitly calls for one additional quart on 8-ft beds. Mats are not sized by coverage: they are cut for specific trucks, so measure your bed and check the fitment list.

Plan around the cure time

Cure time is the real schedule driver. U-POL is touch dry in under an hour but rates light-duty use at 2–3 days and full cure at 5–7 days. Herculiner is faster: functional cure rated 10–12 hours, full cure rated 24 hours. Mats and the Dee Zee tailgate mat have no cure at all — the pick when the truck has to work tomorrow.

Prep decides adhesion

Every peeling-liner horror story traces back to prep: scuff-sand the bed, degrease thoroughly, mask everything you do not want coated, then apply. One reviewer proved the point by skipping prep on a test spot — it was the only area with an adhesion failure. Budget a full day for prep on a coating kit.

Fitment: mats must match your truck

Custom-fit mats only fit the trucks on their list. The Husky 16008 reviewed here fits 2015–2026 Ford F-150 (including Raptor and Lightning) with the 5’7″ bed, and will not fit over a drop-in bed liner. See our best winch for Ford F-150 guide for more F-150-specific fitment thinking. Universal mats like the Dee Zee tailgate mat fit most full-size trucks but may need trimming.

Ventilation and protection gear

Coating kits are solvent chemistry. A Herculiner owner write-up warns flatly that the fumes will make you sick and to wear a real respirator rather than a dust mask. Work outdoors or with strong airflow, wear chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection, and keep ignition sources away while coating and curing.

Detailed reviews of the top truck bed liners

Four picks, each the strongest option in its lane — full reviews, specs, owner reports and honest watch-outs below.

Best DIY Spray-In Kit: U-POL 0820 Raptor Black Truck Bed Liner Kit

Best DIY Spray-In Kit

Why the U-POL 0820 Raptor is our pick

The benchmark DIY spray-on liner: a true 2K urethane system with the schutz gun included in the 4-liter kit. Fill-shake-shoot bottles remove measuring — pour the hardener in, shake two minutes, thread the gun on and spray. Rated 125 sq ft per gallon mixed — one kit covers a full-size bed.

The trade-off is time: touch dry under an hour, light duty at 2–3 days, full cure at 5–7 days. For a durable, flexible, waterproof, sound-deadening coating, this is the kit to beat.

U-POL 0820 Raptor key specs

  • Part number: UP0820 (kit code RLB/S4); tintable sibling UP0821
  • Chemistry: 2K protective urethane coating (base + System 20 hardener)
  • Kit contents: 4 x 750ml base bottles + 1L hardener + schutz spray gun
  • Mix ratio: 3:1 (base to hardener)
  • Coverage: rated 125 sq ft per US gallon mixed — one kit per full-size bed
  • Application: schutz gun, roller or brush
  • Touch dry: rated under 1 hour; light-duty use rated 2–3 days
  • Full cure: rated 5–7 days; pot life about 60 minutes once mixed
  • Properties: waterproof, flexible, sound-deadening; stain and scratch resistant
  • Warranty: not published by the maker

U-POL 0820 Raptor: fits and best for

A universal-fit coating for any pickup bed you can sand, mask and ventilate — best with a compressor, a free prep weekend, and a week for the cure.

U-POL 0820 Raptor pros and watch-outs

  • True 2K urethane — tougher than single-component coatings
  • Spray gun included in the 4-liter kit
  • Fill-shake-shoot bottles remove measuring guesswork
  • Flexible, waterproof, sound-deadening; stain and scratch resistant
  • One kit rated for a full-size pickup bed
  • Full cure rated 5–7 days — the longest wait here
  • Needs a compressor and ventilated spray area
  • About 60 minutes of pot life once mixed
  • Warranty not published

U-POL 0820 Raptor: what owners report

An F-150 Lightning owner on f150lightningforum.com documented the full job on a new truck — sand, degrease, mask, spray with a small 6-gallon compressor — reporting a clean, even finish from the included gun.

CarXplorer confirms the fill-shake-shoot sequence and stresses the 60-minute pot life and the mandatory 5–7 day full cure before hauling heavy loads.

Long-term owner reports are thin beyond these threads, so use the maker’s coverage and cure ratings as your planning numbers.

U-POL 0820 Raptor: who should not buy

No compressor or ventilated spray space? The Herculiner brush-on kit covers a 6-ft bed with rollers instead. If the truck must work tomorrow, the cure window rules this kit out — the Husky drop-in mat protects the bed tonight with no cure.

U-POL 0820 Raptor: pair it with

The Custom Shop BLG-055 gun threads onto the same 1-liter Raptor bottles — keep one as a spare so a worn nozzle never stalls the job.

Best Brush-On Budget Kit: Herculiner HCL1B8 Brush-On Bed Liner Kit

Best Brush-On Budget Kit

Why the Herculiner HCL1B8 is our pick

The original DIY roll-on liner, and the most complete box here: one gallon of ready-to-use polyurethane plus brush, two textured rollers, roller handle and prep pad. No compressor, no gun. Skid-resistant texture from rubber granules; the maker’s 5x-thicker claim is unverified.

One gallon is rated for a 6-ft bed; 8-ft beds need one extra quart. Functional cure 10–12 hours, full cure 24 hours — the fastest turnaround here — with resistance to gasoline, oil, solvents and chemicals.

Herculiner HCL1B8 key specs

  • Part number: HCL1B8 (UPC 0-74804-80000-5)
  • Chemistry: ready-to-use black polyurethane + virgin rubber granules
  • Kit contents: 1 gallon coating, application brush, 2 rollers, roller handle, abrasive pad
  • Coverage: 1 gallon rated for one 6-ft bed; 8-ft beds need 1 additional quart
  • Application: brush for creases and corners, textured rollers for open areas
  • Functional cure: rated 10–12 hours; full cure rated 24 hours
  • Chemical resistance: gasoline, oil, solvents, chemicals
  • Bonding surfaces: wood, metal, concrete, aluminum, asphalt, rubber, fiberglass, most plastics incl. PVC
  • Texture: skid-resistant; maker claims 5x thicker than other roll-on liners (maker claim)
  • Warranty: not published by the maker

Herculiner HCL1B8: fits and best for

For a coated bed with no compressor: brush into creases first, then roll the open floor — the owner-tested technique. The rated 24-hour full cure also makes it the pick on a deadline.

Herculiner HCL1B8 pros and watch-outs

  • Complete kit — brush, rollers, prep pad included
  • No compressor or spray gun needed
  • Fastest rated full cure here: 24 hours
  • Bonds to wood, metal, plastic and more for repairs beyond the bed
  • Resists gasoline, oil, solvents and chemicals once cured
  • Solvent fumes are strong — a real respirator is mandatory, not optional
  • 8-ft beds need an extra quart beyond the gallon kit
  • Coverage is thinner per pass than a spray kit; two coats are common
  • Warranty not published

Herculiner HCL1B8: what owners report

A jk-forum.com write-up walks through the technique — brush creases first, then textured rollers, second coat after about two hours — and warns the fumes demand a real respirator, not a dust mask.

The Truth About Cars calls the finish a tough textured polyurethane that resists chipping and peeling, while atfulldrive.com rates it the top polyurethane roll-on — with thorough prep separating good results from bad.

Herculiner HCL1B8: who should not buy

Want the thickest film and own a compressor? The U-POL Raptor spray kit builds a heavier 2K coat. Sensitive to solvents or no ventilated workspace? Skip coatings — the Husky drop-in mat has no fumes and no cure.

Herculiner HCL1B8: pair it with

Non-negotiable companion: the 3M 6100 half facepiece respirator, rated up to 10x the permissible exposure limit with the right cartridges (sold separately).

Tip: buy the extra quart up front if your bed is 8 ft — running dry mid-job forces a second order. For more weekend truck projects see best winch mounting plate for truck.

Best Drop-In Mat: Husky Liners Heavy Duty Bed Mat (F-150 5’7″)

Best Drop-In Mat

Why the Husky Liners 16008 is our pick

Bed protection tonight with no prep and no cure: the Husky 16008 is the best-documented custom-fit mat we verified. Molded for 2015–2026 F-150 (including Raptor and Lightning) 5’7″ beds in rubberized DuraGrip HD, its anti-skid surface holds cargo while Air Dry Nibs underneath let air circulate so moisture dries out.

One person, minutes, no tools. Odorless, chemical-resistant, made in the USA, with a published Limited Lifetime Warranty. The honest limit: it protects the floor, not the walls, and will not fit over a drop-in bed liner.

Husky Liners 16008 key specs

  • Part number: 16008 (UPC 753933160081)
  • Fitment: 2015–2026 Ford F-150 incl. Raptor and Lightning, 5’7″ (67.1″) bed
  • Construction: rubberized DuraGrip HD, one-piece
  • Underside: Air Dry Nibs elevate the mat for air circulation and moisture drying
  • Surface: textured anti-skid to keep cargo from shifting
  • Odor: odorless rubber compound; resistant to most chemicals
  • Installation: drops in with no tools; installs in minutes; no cure
  • Origin: made in the USA
  • Limitation: will not fit with drop-in bed liners
  • Warranty: Limited Lifetime Warranty (published on the listing)

Husky Liners 16008: fits and best for

For F-150 5’7″ owners who want protection without a permanent coating — leased or rotating work trucks, or anyone hauling tomorrow. Confirm year, cab and bed length against the fitment list first.

Husky Liners 16008 pros and watch-outs

  • Zero prep, zero cure — working protection in minutes
  • Custom-fit for 2015–2026 F-150 including Lightning
  • Air Dry Nibs prevent moisture trapping under the mat
  • Odorless rubber, resistant to most chemicals
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty — the strongest here
  • Protects the floor only; bed walls stay exposed
  • Vehicle-specific — useless on the wrong truck or bed length
  • Will not fit over an existing drop-in bed liner
  • Unsecured cargo can still shift under hard braking

Husky Liners 16008: what owners report

The Truth About Cars highlights the anti-skid surface that keeps cargo put and the Air Dry Nibs that let moisture dry underneath, noting the odorless compound.

EcoDrivingUSA praises the nibs and odorless rubber, noting the mat does not bond to the bed — the point, if you ever want it out.

Multi-year owner threads are thin, so the Limited Lifetime Warranty carries the long-term confidence here.

Husky Liners 16008: who should not buy

If bed walls take as much abuse as the floor, a coating is the better call — the U-POL Raptor kit coats walls, floor and rails in one job. If your truck is not a 2015–2026 F-150 5’7″, this part number does not fit; the Herculiner kit is universal-fit.

Best Tailgate Add-On: Dee Zee DZ86700 Heavyweight Tailgate Mat

Best Tailgate Add-On

Why the Dee Zee DZ86700 is our pick

The tailgate takes the worst abuse on a lined bed, and most liners stop at the floor. The Dee Zee DZ86700 is a heavyweight .375-inch rubber mat for most full-size trucks, hardware included, rated to prevent tailgate damage during loading and unloading.

The natural companion to any liner pick above, not a standalone solution — backed by a published 3-year Limited Warranty, more than either coating kit offers.

Dee Zee DZ86700 key specs

  • Part number: DZ86700 (UPC 019023867002)
  • Material: high-strength rubber compound
  • Thickness: .375 inch (extra-thick construction)
  • Fitment: most full-size trucks
  • Mounting: hardware included
  • Purpose: rated to prevent tailgate damage when loading/unloading
  • Chemical resistance: resists most chemical spills
  • Temperature behavior: will not crack, rust or break in extreme temperatures (maker)
  • Cure time: none — in service immediately
  • Warranty: 3-year Limited Warranty (published on the listing)

Dee Zee DZ86700: fits and best for

Best for full-size trucks whose bed is protected but whose tailgate still takes direct hits. Confirm your tailgate width before ordering — some trimming may be needed on narrower gates. It pairs cleanly with sprayed beds, roll-on coatings and drop-in mats alike.

Dee Zee DZ86700 pros and watch-outs

  • .375-inch rubber — genuinely thick for a tailgate mat
  • Mounting hardware included; no separate fastener hunt
  • Fits most full-size trucks without trimming
  • Chemical-spill resistant and temperature-tolerant per the maker
  • Published 3-year Limited Warranty
  • Covers the tailgate only — not a bed liner by itself
  • Near-universal fit means checking your tailgate width first
  • Adds a visible mat line on trucks with otherwise clean tailgates

Dee Zee DZ86700: what owners report

Owners on mavericktruckclub.com treat a tailgate liner as the cheap companion to a bed mat — added specifically to stop dings on the loading edge.

Summit Racing’s Dee Zee catalog describes extra-thick NyCord rubber that will not crack, rust or break in extreme temperatures.

Standalone long-term threads on this part number are thin — most mentions come as an add-on to a bed-mat discussion — so treat it as a well-specified accessory.

Dee Zee DZ86700: who should not buy

If you are lining the whole bed from scratch, start with the liner itself — the Herculiner kit or U-POL Raptor kit — and add the tailgate mat second. If your tailgate already has a factory liner or cover in good shape, this mat solves a problem you do not have.

Dee Zee DZ86700: pair it with

The obvious partner is the floor protection it complements: the Husky Liners 16008 mat covers the bed floor while this mat armors the loading edge, and both are in service the same afternoon with no cure.

We may earn a commission at no cost to you.

Tip: test-fit the mat on the closed tailgate before drilling any mounting holes. More tailgate-friendly gear in truck accessories.

No scores are printed in this guide — with no hands-on testing behind it, a numeric score would be theater. The table above is the verdict: pick by tools, timeline and truck.

Installation basics

Coating kits live or die on prep: remove tie-downs and bed hardware, scuff-sand the entire bed, degrease thoroughly, then mask rails, stake pockets and latches. Spray kits go on in light, even passes; brush-on kits go into creases first with the brush, then the open floor with the textured rollers, with the second coat after the first has set (about two hours for Herculiner). Ventilate aggressively, and respect the 5–7 day (U-POL) or 24-hour (Herculiner) full-cure windows — hauling early is how coatings fail.

Drop-in mats are the opposite: unroll, position, done — one person, minutes, no tools. The Husky mat’s nibs need the bed reasonably clean underneath to circulate air properly. If you are already working in the bed, our how to mount a winch in a truck bed walkthrough covers bed-mounted hardware and best winch mounting plate for truck covers the mounting side. More exterior upgrades: grille guards, nerf bars and hitch steps. For the pulling side, see best heavy-duty truck winch and best portable winch for truck.

Safety essentials

Work outdoors or with strong cross-ventilation — solvent fumes from coating kits are no joke.

Wear a real respirator (half-facepiece with organic-vapor cartridges), not a dust mask.

Wear chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection; urethane bonds to skin fast.

Keep ignition sources, heaters and pilot lights away during application and cure.

Read the maker’s TDS/SDS before mixing any 2K product — pot life and PPE are on the sheet.

Keep people and pets clear of the work area until the coating is fully cured.

Custom Shop BLG-055 Bedliner Application Gun

The schutz-type gun with regulator and gauge that threads onto 1-liter U-Pol Raptor bottles — the same bottle system the 0820 kit uses. Keep one as the spare so a worn nozzle never stalls a 60-minute pot life. More application gear in our essential winching accessories roundup.

Troubleshooting

Symptom Likely cause Fix
Coating peels or flakes Skipped or rushed surface prep Strip the failed area, sand to bare substrate, degrease, mask and recoat
Awful fumes, headache Poor ventilation or dust mask only Stop, ventilate, and switch to a half-facepiece respirator with cartridges
Runs or sags in spray coat Gun too close or passes too heavy Keep a steady gun distance and build with light, even passes
Uneven texture, roller marks Coating not stirred or rolled too late Mix thoroughly, work in sections, and recoat inside the set window
Coating stays tacky past the window Cold or humid conditions Move to a warmer, drier space and extend the full-cure time
Mat shifts or bunches Wrong size mat or debris underneath Confirm bed length and trim fit; clean under the mat and reseat it

Who should NOT buy these

Lease or company-truck drivers: a sprayed or rolled coating is permanent — it goes with the truck at turn-in. The Husky 16008 mat lifts out clean and keeps the bed factory-fresh underneath.

Anyone without a ventilated workspace: 2K urethane and solvent polyurethane fumes are serious chemistry. With only a closed garage, skip the coatings and take the mat route.

Owners whose truck must haul tomorrow: the U-POL kit’s 5–7 day rated full cure is a real schedule commitment. Herculiner’s 24-hour rated cure or a same-day mat install fits a working truck’s calendar instead.

Buyers wanting full wall-to-rail armor: mats and the tailgate add-on protect floors and edges, not bed walls. Only a sprayed or rolled coating covers the whole bed.

FAQ

Should I choose a spray-on, brush-on or drop-in truck bed liner?

Choose spray-on (U-POL Raptor) with a compressor, a ventilated space and a free weekend — it builds the thickest 2K urethane film. Choose brush-on (Herculiner) with no compressor for a permanent coating that cures in a rated 24 hours. Choose a drop-in mat (Husky) for same-day reversible protection — ideal for leased trucks.

How much liner do I need for a 6-ft vs 8-ft bed?

One U-POL 0820 kit is rated for a full-size bed at 125 sq ft per gallon mixed. One Herculiner gallon is rated for a 6-ft bed, with one extra quart for 8-ft beds. Measure your bed first; running out mid-job is the most common DIY complaint.

How long before I can haul cargo on a new liner?

U-POL: touch dry under an hour, light duty at 2–3 days, full cure at 5–7 days — one roundup warns against hauling heavy loads before that window closes. Herculiner: functional cure at 10–12 hours, full cure at 24 hours. Mats and the Dee Zee tailgate mat have no cure.

Do I really need to sand the bed before coating?

Yes — prep decides whether the liner lasts. Scuff-sand, degrease, mask, then coat. One reviewer skipped prep on a test spot and it was the only area with an adhesion failure. Budget a full day for prep; the coating itself is the quick part.

Can I apply a liner over an existing drop-in liner or old coating?

Generally no. Husky notes its 16008 mat will not fit over a drop-in bed liner, and coatings need a prepped, bonded substrate — old flaking material must come off first. A sound existing spray-in can sometimes be scuffed and recoated with a compatible product.

Is a respirator really necessary for brush-on kits?

Yes. A Herculiner owner write-up warns the fumes will make you sick and to wear a real respirator rather than a dust mask, and coating data sheets in this class instruct a NIOSH-approved respirator. The 3M 6000-series half facepiece with organic-vapor cartridges is the standard answer.

Will a drop-in mat trap moisture and rust my bed?

A flat mat can, which is why the Husky 16008’s Air Dry Nibs matter: they elevate the mat so air circulates and moisture dries out underneath instead of sitting against the paint. Pull the mat a couple of times a year and hose the bed out.

What about protecting the tailgate?

The tailgate takes the worst abuse of any bed surface and most liners stop at the bed floor. The Dee Zee DZ86700 is a .375-inch rubber tailgate mat with mounting hardware included for most full-size trucks, backed by a 3-year Limited Warranty — the cheap, obvious companion to any bed mat.

Will a bed liner hurt my truck’s resale value?

A well-applied coating protects the bed and its value; a peeling one does the opposite — another reason prep matters more than brand. Drop-in mats are the safe play for resale since they lift out and leave the factory bed underneath. For more truck-value thinking, see our best winch for Toyota Tacoma and best winch for Jeep Gladiator guides.
