The Gladiator is the Wrangler that weighs like a truck: roughly 4,650–5,400 lb at the curb and a GVWR around 5,800–6,250 lb, before the bed fills with the gear the bed exists for. Its sizing therefore sits a class above the two-door Wrangler’s: stock Gladiators size honestly at 10,000 lb, and built overland trucks — rack, tent, armour, full bed — belong in the 12,000 lb class. This guide ranks both classes for the Gladiator specifically; Wrangler bodies are our Wrangler guide, and the wider Jeep field is the Jeep guide.
How we researched: WARN, Smittybilt and Rough Country data matched to exact model numbers and this site’s verified Jeep and truck research. We do not test winches. All three of the previous version’s linked winches verified and are retained — including its ZEON, whose gear figure this guide prints as the source conflict it is.
Short answer: stock Gladiators buy the VR EVO 10-S; built Gladiators buy the X2O Gen3 12K (or the PRO12000S on a budget); the ZEON 10-S is the premium 10K.
Run your Gladiator’s numbers — bed loaded, as it travels:
A Jeep winch decision is really a weight decision twice over: the winch must pull your loaded Jeep (× 1.5, as ever), and your Jeep must carry the winch — every pound on the nose of a Wrangler is a pound of sag, steering weight and approach angle. That is why this guide favours synthetic rope and honest spec sheets, and why two famous cheap 13,000 lb listings did not survive our checks: one is a white-label winch whose own listing contradicts itself, and the other has no manufacturer behind it at all.
How we researched: manufacturer specifications from WARN, Smittybilt, OPENROAD and Rough Country, matched to exact model numbers, plus owner threads on the JL Wrangler and Gladiator forums. We do not test winches. Where a maker does not publish a figure, the table says so.
Short answer: most Wrangler and Gladiator owners should buy the WARN VR EVO 10-S — 10,000 lb, IP68 and the lightest serious winch here at 55 lb. Armoured, loaded Jeeps step up to the X2O Gen3 12K. On a budget, the XRC Gen2 9.5K remains the value benchmark.
Sizing, honestly: a stock JL weighs roughly 4,000–4,700 lb; add armour, bumpers, camping kit and people and 5,500–6,500 lb loaded is normal — which is why the 9,500–12,000 lb class owns this guide. Run your own number:

How our score works: Gladiator fit (truck-weight sizing + bed-cargo reality) 30% · sealing 15% · warranty 15% · published-spec honesty 15% · owner feedback 25%. Our Score is editorial judgement based on published specs and owner reports, not test results.
Recovery safety: the Gladiator’s long wheelbase high-centres where a Wrangler clears — belly recoveries are its signature pull, and they are sustained, near-rating pulls. Spool out for them, double-line with a snatch block at the top end, and rig only to rated frame points.

The ZEON 10-S is the premium 10K: the ZEON platform’s cast construction and Spydura Pro line, IP68, the same warranty family — carried from our Bronco guide, where its identity verified. Its honesty flag rides along: WARN’s own materials and retailer feeds disagree on the ZEON line’s gear figures, so this guide prints the conflict rather than a number, and no unit weight is published to our standard.

Gladiator winch FAQ
Does a Gladiator need a bigger winch than a Wrangler?
A stock one needs the same 10K a 4-door Wrangler does; a BUILT Gladiator outgrows it faster, because the bed invites cargo. Size by loaded weight — the calculator above — not by the badge.
Will a Wrangler bumper/winch plate fit?
The Gladiator shares the JL-era front end, and many JL winch plates cross over — but verify per part number; the trucks diverge behind the front axle, not ahead of it.
What about the Mojave’s remote reservoirs / Rubicon steel bumper?
Trim hardware changes install details, not sizing. Winch-ready steel bumpers still need the plate and the winch itself.
Rear winch for the bed?
A different build — our receiver mount guide covers the removable rear route honestly, including its straight-pull limits.
Our verdict
Gladiators, by build: VR EVO 10-S stock, ZEON 10-S premium, X2O 10K value, X2O Gen3 12K built, PRO12000S budget-built — a Wrangler’s face on a truck’s scales, sized accordingly.
