This guide sizes by that split: 9,500–10,000 lb for half-tons, 12,000 and up for HD trucks (the 17.5K pick below is here for them), with five verified winches ranked across the range. The previous version of this guide contained a drop-list brand this site no longer recommends anywhere, and an ATV winch whose own heading disagreed with its link (3,500 lb in the text, a 4,500 lb listing behind the button) — both are gone, and two of its surviving picks turn out to be better than it knew: the Tiger Shark below is the synthetic SR model, and its “Smittybilt X20” was the 17.5K variant all along. The Tiger Shark 9500 SR is this rebuild’s identification win: the old post linked it without ever establishing which Tiger Shark it was. It is the SR — synthetic Dyneema line, brake relocated off the drum (no heat transfer to the rope), 59 lb installed (61 lb listings are the shipping weight). Superwinch publishes no IP number for it — weather-sealed language only — so the table prints Not published, as in our JK guide for its steel sibling.

The PRO9500 (steel) is the second identification: 9,500 lb, 5.5 hp, 265:1, 100 ft of steel and IP67 at 82.85 lb, per Rough Country’s own published specs — which the old post’s claims matched point-for-point without ever naming the model properly. Its warranty prints with its conflict: current maker copy says 3-year; one retailer feed splits it 1-year electrical / 2-year mechanical. (The synthetic sibling PRO9500S is a different model and a different listing.)
