The Gladiator is the Jeep that makes the winch plate question easy and hard at the same time. Easy, because the factory steel bumper can take a winch with the right plate. Hard, because the plastic bumper looks almost the same and cannot.
This guide covers the five plates Gladiator owners actually buy: a value plate, a stainless plate, a heavy-duty plate, the WARN dealer mount, and a universal cradle for the rear receiver. Every fitment claim is checked against the maker listing, and the plastic bumper trap is named in plain terms.
The 30-second answer
For most Gladiator owners, buy the YZONA plate. For a plate that will not rust, buy the Quadratec stainless plate. For the highest rating, buy the Wsays plate. For the WARN mount, buy the WARN 101255 through a dealer. For a rear receiver winch, get the ECOTRIC cradle.
How we researched this guide
We compared 5 mounting plates and 3 recovery accessories for this guide, and checked the maker listing or product page for every plate.
We read a Gladiator owner install write-up on the stock Rubicon bumper and Gladiator GVWR figures for the sizing table. We do not test plates.

Best Premium JL/JT Mount
WARN 101255 Winch Mount for Jeep Gladiator JT and Wrangler JL
WARN own winch mount for the Gladiator JT and Wrangler JL factory steel bumper, rated for winches up to 12,000 lb, sold through dealers with no verified Amazon listing.
If this plate is dealer-only for you: We could not verify a US Amazon listing for the WARN 101255, so buy the YZONA plate instead. It is the same 10 in x 4.5 in pattern, rated to 12,000 lb, and made for the same factory steel bumper. It uses the same 10 in x 4.5 in pattern, so the swap below bolts to the same winch. Check Price
Best Heavy-Duty Hitch Cradle
ECOTRIC 10×4.5 Cradle Winch Mounting Plate
A 1/5 in steel cradle for 8,000 to 13,000 lb winches that slides into any 2 in receiver, with carry handles and a foldable design for storage.

Winch size calculator: what plate class do you need?
Enter your loaded vehicle weight (vehicle plus passengers, gear, bumper and winch). The calculator applies the 1.5x rule: minimum rated line pull is loaded weight times 1.5. The plate must be rated for a winch of at least that pull. A plate never makes an undersized winch safe.
How to choose a winch mounting plate for a Gladiator
Gladiator plates fail on the bumper check more than on strength. These six checks stop the common mistake: a plate for a plastic bumper.
Bolt pattern first, vehicle second
Most US winches use the 10 in x 4.5 in four-bolt pattern, and most plates in this guide use it too, but the pattern alone does not prove fit. Check the fairlead spacing, the drum length and the clutch handle clearance against your bumper or deck before you order. A plate that matches the pattern and fouls the bumper is still the wrong plate.
Plate thickness and steel grade
Look for at least 1/4 in cold-rolled steel on a full-size truck plate, and 1/5 in steel on a cradle that carries a 10,000 lb winch. Thickness is the number that resists bending under a stall pull. Where a maker does not publish thickness, this guide says so, and the plate earns its place on fitment and warranty instead of a guessed number.
Winch class, not winch brand
Match the plate to the winch class, not the badge on the winch. A plate rated for 8,000 to 13,000 lb winches suits any winch in that class on the same pattern. A plate rated to 3,600 lb is a hard ceiling, and a plate with no published rating should only carry light-duty winches until the maker publishes one.
Receiver class governs cradle pulls
A receiver cradle is only as strong as the receiver it slides into. A Class III 2 in receiver is the minimum for a full-size truck winch, and the pull must stay straight, because the cradle hangs the winch a foot out from the receiver face and an angled pull becomes a lever. No receiver maker publishes a winch-pull rating, so straight pulls and a sound receiver are the rule.
Fairlead and rope type must match
A hawse fairlead suits synthetic rope and a roller fairlead suits steel cable, and the plate has to carry the fairlead your rope needs. Check the fairlead bolt spacing on the plate against the fairlead you own. A plate with a 10 in fairlead mount and a fairlead that does not fit it is a second order and a second install day.
Weight, approach angle and sensors
Every pound on the nose changes steering weight and approach angle, and a plate plus a winch can add 80 lb or more ahead of the front axle. On modern trucks and Jeeps, check the front camera, parking sensors and adaptive cruise radar before you order, because a plate that blocks a sensor costs more than the plate to fix.
Gladiator weights and the plate class they need
These are Gladiator GVWR figures from published sources, with the 1.5x rule applied. Weigh your loaded Gladiator and check the door sticker for the exact figure, because trim and options change the number.
| Vehicle / setup | Loaded weight | Minimum line pull (x 1.5) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gladiator Sport, GVWR | 5,800 lb | 8,700 lb | Gladiator GVWR 5,800 lb per published figures |
| Gladiator Overland, GVWR | 5,800 lb | 8,700 lb | Gladiator GVWR 5,800 lb per published figures |
| Gladiator Mojave, GVWR | 6,140 lb | 9,210 lb | Gladiator GVWR 6,140 lb per published figures |
| Gladiator Rubicon, GVWR | 6,250 lb | 9,375 lb | Gladiator GVWR 6,250 lb per published figures |
| Gladiator Rubicon, loaded with gear | About 6,500 lb | 9,750 lb | Planning figure; weigh the loaded truck |
Gladiator winch mounting plates by budget
A plate is not the place to save money by guessing. The tiers below show what each spend actually buys.
| Budget tier | What you get | Example pick |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | A value steel plate for the factory steel bumper | YZONA JL/JT plate |
| Mid-range | A stainless plate that will not rust | Quadratec JL/JT plate |
| Premium | The highest-rated plate, or the WARN dealer mount | Wsays plate or WARN 101255 |
Types of Gladiator winch mounting plates
Four shapes cover almost every Gladiator install. The right one depends on your bumper and whether the winch stays on the truck or moves.
| Mount type | Pros | Cons | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Universal flat plate | Fits the most winches and surfaces | Needs a flat, strong surface; no receiver | Trucks, trailers, custom bumpers |
| Vehicle-specific plate | Bolts to factory points; cleanest fit | Fits one vehicle family only | ATV, JK, JL and Gladiator owners |
| Receiver cradle | Moves front to rear and between vehicles | Receiver governs the pull; heavy to carry | Portable winches, shared winches |
| Bumper with built-in plate | Strongest arrangement; one install | Bigger job; costs more than a plate | Owners replacing the bumper anyway |

Best Stainless JL/JT Plate: Quadratec Winch Mounting Plate for Jeep Wrangler JL and Gladiator JT
Best Stainless JL/JT Plate — the stainless plate that will not rust at the bolts
Why the Quadratec Winch Mounting Plate for Jeep Wrangler JL and Gladiator JT is our pick
The Quadratec plate is the corrosion answer for the JL and Gladiator: stainless steel instead of painted mild steel, so the plate does not rust at the bolt holes after wet winters and salted roads. Quadratec lists fitment for 2018 to 2023 Wrangler JL and JLU and Gladiator JT with the factory bumper, a 12,000 lb winch rating, and a kit that includes the fairlead mount plate and the install hardware. Stainless costs more and is heavier to handle, but on a Jeep that lives outside, the plate you never repaint is the cheaper one over time.

Best Heavy-Duty JL/JT Plate: Wsays Winch Mounting Bracket Kit for Jeep Wrangler JL and Gladiator
Best Heavy-Duty JL/JT Plate — the JL and Gladiator plate with the highest rating here
Why the Wsays Winch Mounting Bracket Kit for Jeep Wrangler JL and Gladiator is our pick

The extra thousand pounds matters on a loaded Gladiator, where the 1.5x rule pushes the minimum pull past 9,000 lb.

Best Heavy-Duty Hitch Cradle: ECOTRIC 10×4.5 Cradle Winch Mounting Plate
Best Heavy-Duty Hitch Cradle — the cradle that carries a full-size winch in a 2 in receiver
Why the ECOTRIC 10×4.5 Cradle Winch Mounting Plate is our pick
The ECOTRIC cradle is the practical answer for a truck or trailer owner who wants a full-size winch without cutting or welding a bumper. It takes winches from 8,000 to 13,000 lb on the standard 10 in x 4.5 in pattern, and the 1/5 in steel plate with black powder coating is built for the load. The trade-off is the receiver itself: it is the weak link, so pulls must stay straight and the receiver must be Class III or better.
ECOTRIC 10×4.5 Cradle Winch Mounting Plate key specs
- Winch capacity: 8,000-13,000 lb
- Bolt pattern: 10 in x 4.5 in standard
- Material: High-grade steel, black powder coat
- Plate thickness: 1/5 in steel
- Receiver: 2 in receiver shank
- Fairlead mount: Standard fairlead mount
- Handles: Cradle carry handles, foldable design
- Weight: Not published
- Hardware: Included
- Warranty: Not published
- Fitment: Trucks, SUVs, trailers and 4x4s, 2 in receiver
- Use: Front or rear receiver, portable
ECOTRIC 10×4.5 Cradle Winch Mounting Plate: fits and best for
Best for full-size trucks, SUVs and trailers with a sound 2 in Class III receiver and a winch in the 8,000 to 13,000 lb class. It also suits owners who share one winch between vehicles. It is not a permanent front mount, and not for small ATV winches.
ECOTRIC 10×4.5 Cradle Winch Mounting Plate pros and watch-outs
Pros
- Rated by the maker for 8,000-13,000 lb winches
- 1/5 in steel with powder coat
- Slides into any 2 in receiver
- Carry handles and foldable storage
- Standard 10 in x 4.5 in pattern
Watch-outs
- Receiver strength governs every pull
- Drilling may be needed on some setups
- No wiring kit included
- Heavy to carry with a winch bolted on
ECOTRIC 10×4.5 Cradle Winch Mounting Plate: what owners report
- Mounting-plate roundups rank the ECOTRIC cradle a top pick for its build and its 8,000 to 13,000 lb range, and note drilling may be needed. (Off-Road Pull best winch mounting plates)
- A second roundup lists the same capacity range and steel construction. (ReeReviews best winch mount)
Owner reports come through roundups and install notes, not long-term single-product reviews.
ECOTRIC 10×4.5 Cradle Winch Mounting Plate: who should not buy
Skip it if you have no 2 in receiver, or if your winch is under 8,000 lb, where a smaller plate fits better. For a permanent front mount, read our truck mounting plate guide instead.
ECOTRIC 10×4.5 Cradle Winch Mounting Plate: pair it with
Pair it with a snatch block so angled pulls stay straight on the receiver, and budget a quick-connect wiring kit.
We may earn a commission at no cost to you.
Tip: Pin the cradle with a locking hitch pin. The winch lifts out of the receiver, and so does the cradle.

Installation and fitment basics
Start by checking your bumper is steel. The Gladiator Rubicon plastic bumper looks similar to the steel one, but it will not carry a winch plate, and a Gladiator owner write-up shows the work involved in fitting a WARN plate to one. Tap the bumper, look for the steel stamping, and check the build sheet if you are unsure. Our best winch for Jeep Gladiator guide covers the bumper check.
A JL and Gladiator plate install is a 2 to 4 hour job for most owners, because the bumper usually stays on. Dry-fit the plate and the winch on the bench first: check the drum clears the bumper, the clutch handle moves, and the fairlead sits square. If you use the ECOTRIC cradle at the rear, budget the 24 ft quick-connect wiring at the same time, because a rear winch with no wiring is dead weight. Our mount a winch to a front bumper guide shows the dry-fit order.
Torque the plate bolts to the maker figure and re-check them after the first trail day. New plates settle on their mounts, and a loose plate is the common cause of a winch that looks crooked after a month. Check the front camera, parking sensors and adaptive cruise radar before the first drive, because the Gladiator packs sensors into the same front end the plate occupies.
Safety essentials
A winch is safety equipment, and the plate is part of it. These six rules apply to every pull, whatever the plate.
Safety essentials — read before your first pull
- Stand clear of the line and never stand in line with it. A broken line or hook can snap back across the plate and bumper.
- Use a winch damper or a heavy blanket over the line on every pull, and wear gloves when you handle rope or cable.
- Never hook the line back to itself. Anchor to a rated point with a tree saver or a shackle, never to the plate edge.
- Keep at least 5 wraps of steel cable or 10 wraps of synthetic rope on the drum, or the line can pull free of the drum.
- Keep pulls short and let the motor cool. A long stall pull overheats the motor and loads the plate bolts past their design.
- Check every plate bolt and the fairlead bolts before a trip. A loose plate turns a straight pull into a lever on the frame.
WARN Epic Snatch Block — A snatch block lets you double the line back to the vehicle, which halves the load on the winch and the plate on a hard pull.
AMBULL D-Ring Shackles — Rated shackles connect strap to plate and line without a hook that can slip off under load.
WARN Spydura Synthetic Rope 87915 — Synthetic rope is lighter than steel cable, so the plate and bumper carry less dead weight and the rope is easier to handle on a slope.
Our accessory guides go deeper: best snatch block for winching, best tree saver strap and best D-ring shackles for recovery.
Troubleshooting
Most plate problems show up on the first install or the first pull. The fixes below come from install sheets and owner reports.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Winch will not sit flat on the plate | Plate holes do not match the winch feet | Check the 10 in x 4.5 in pattern against the winch manual; do not elongate holes with a drill |
| Plate flexes on the first pull | Mounting surface is too thin, or bolts are loose | Stop the pull, re-torque to the maker figure, and add a backing plate or move to a frame mount |
| Fairlead does not line up | Fairlead spacing differs from the plate mount | Measure the fairlead bolt centers before ordering; buy the fairlead adapter the plate maker lists |
| Winch hits the bumper on install | Drum or clutch handle fouls the bumper | Dry-fit on the bench first; use the offset holes if the plate has them, or change the bumper |
| Bolts loosen after the first trip | New plate settled on its mounts | Re-torque after the first trail day and again after a month, then at every service |
| Rust starts at the bolt holes | Paint cracked at the holes during install | Clean, dry and touch up the paint, and fit a winch cover between trips |
Who should NOT buy these
A plate for a plastic bumper: The Gladiator plastic bumper cannot carry a winch on a plate alone. You need the factory steel bumper or an aftermarket bumper first. Check the bumper before you order the plate.
A winch over the plate rating: Never put a 13,000 lb winch on a plate rated to 12,000 lb. The Wsays plate in this guide is rated to 13,000 lb for owners who need the margin. The plate is the weak link, and it will show it on the hardest pull.
A JK plate on a Gladiator: JK, JL and Gladiator plates are not interchangeable. A JK plate will not bolt to a Gladiator bumper correctly. Buy the plate made for the JL and Gladiator.
A plate with no published rating for heavy work: If the pull is heavy and the maker publishes no capacity, do not guess. Use a plate with a published rating, like the YZONA at 12,000 lb or the Wsays at 13,000 lb.

FAQ
What is the best winch mounting plate for a Jeep Gladiator?
For most Gladiator owners with the factory steel bumper, the YZONA plate is the value pick, rated to 12,000 lb. For a plate that will not rust, the Quadratec stainless plate is the pick. For the highest rating, the Wsays plate is rated to 13,000 lb. All three are covered in full above.
Does a Jeep Gladiator need a winch mounting plate?
Yes, unless the bumper already has one built in. The factory steel bumper can take a winch with the right plate, while the plastic bumper cannot carry a winch on a plate alone. A plate bolts the winch to the bumper structure, and without it there is nowhere for the winch to bolt.
Can I mount a winch on a stock Gladiator bumper?
On the factory steel bumper, yes, with a plate made for it, like the YZONA, Quadratec or Wsays plates in this guide. On the plastic bumper, no, not without serious modification: a Gladiator owner write-up shows cutting the bumper frame to fit a WARN plate, and that is not a bolt-on job.
What bolt pattern do Gladiator winch plates use?
Most Gladiator winch plates use the standard 10 in x 4.5 in four-bolt pattern, which is the same pattern most 8,000 to 12,000 lb winches use. The pattern alone does not prove fit: check the fairlead spacing, the drum length and the clutch clearance against your bumper.
What size winch fits a Gladiator mounting plate?
Most plates in this guide suit winches from 8,000 to 13,000 lb on the standard pattern. The Gladiator GVWR of 5,800 to 6,250 lb puts the minimum pull at 8,700 to 9,375 lb, so a 10,000 or 12,000 lb winch is the common choice, and the plate must be rated for it.
How long does it take to install a winch plate on a Gladiator?
A JL and Gladiator plate install is a 2 to 4 hour job for most owners, because the bumper usually stays on. Dry-fit the plate and the winch on the bench first, and re-check the plate bolts after the first trail day, because new plates settle.
Will a JL Wrangler winch plate fit a Gladiator?
Yes, in most cases. The JL Wrangler and the Gladiator JT share the factory steel bumper pattern, and the plates in this guide list fitment for both. Check the year range on the listing, because the Quadratec plate is listed to 2023 while the YZONA covers 2018 to 2025.
Do I need a new bumper to fit a winch on a Gladiator?
No, not if you have the factory steel bumper: a plate like the YZONA bolts to it directly. If you have the plastic bumper, yes, you need a steel bumper or an aftermarket bumper first, because the plastic bumper cannot carry a winch plate.
Can I use a receiver cradle for a winch on a Gladiator?
Yes. The ECOTRIC cradle in this guide slides into a 2 in receiver and carries a winch up to 13,000 lb, so it works at the front or the rear. The receiver must be Class III or better, the pull must stay straight, and the wiring must reach the receiver you use.
