“Winch for a snow plow” is two different jobs sharing one search. Recovery safety: winter recoveries happen on ice, in the dark, with cold hands — rig slowly anyway. A plow truck’s extra front weight is already in its sizing (the calculator takes loaded weight, plow included). Never lift a plow blade with anyone’s hands near the line’s fairlead path.

What size winch do I need for a snow plow?
For the LIFT (ATV/UTV): 2,500–4,500 lb covers every blade made — lifting needs hundreds of pounds; the winch size follows the machine’s recovery maths. For a TRUCK: the plow has hydraulics; size the recovery winch by loaded weight × 1.5 as usual.
Why does my plow winch line keep breaking?
Fairlead wear — the same short section bends over the fairlead on every lift. The fixes are the tip box at the top: plow strap for the season, oversized roller fairlead, or a dedicated plow lift.
Steel or synthetic for plowing?
Synthetic for the lift winches (kinder cycling, no burrs in gloves); steel stays legitimate on plow trucks for winter abrasion. Either way the strap takes the seasonal wear.
Can I plow with a UTV winch and recover with it too?
