Rope safety: retire rope with cut strands, heavy fuzzing, flat spots, glazing or a stretched eye — Samson’s care guidance ties visible degradation to strength loss, and a parted synthetic line under load is a stored-energy event even without steel’s recoil mass. The ZESUPER is the value truck rope — a 3/8 x 100 ft Dyneema-class line with hook and protective sleeve — with its strength printed as the conflict it is: the US listing claims 26,500 lb while Australian retailers sell the nominally identical 9.5 mm x 30 m family rope at 23,809 lb. At EITHER figure the margin over a 10–12K winch is thin-to-adequate (roughly 2:1 at the lower figure against a 12K’s first layer) — which is the honest way to buy it: a value rope for 8–10K-class winches, not a 12K margin rope. The reference rope fibre itself — Samson’s published table puts 3/8 in AmSteel-Blue at 19,600 lb average / 17,600 lb minimum strength — has no verified Amazon ASIN as a 3/8 in winch line (dealer spool and cut-length channels only; the verified Samson ASIN on this site is the 1/4 in cut in our ATV rope guide). Replacement rope FAQ
Can I replace steel cable with synthetic on the same winch?
Usually yes — with the conversion done properly: a smooth hawse fairlead (not a scored roller), a cleaned/inspected drum, the maker’s minimum wraps kept, and the rope diameter kept at the class the winch was built for.
Longer rope or thicker rope?
Neither beyond the class table: thicker costs drum length, longer costs layers (and outer layers pull less). Buy the class size at full length.
How do I know the old rope is done?
Cut strands, heavy fuzz, flat/glazed sections, a damaged eye or unknown history after a shock load. Samson’s care guidance is the standard; when in doubt, the rope is the cheap part of the system.
Does the hook end matter?
