The Pioneer 1000 is the UTV guide where the sizing maths argues with the catalogue. Honda’s launch figures put the machine’s GVWR at 3,190 lb (1000) and 3,358 lb (1000-5) — reported from Honda’s launch data, since Honda’s own spec sheets publish curb weight only — and GVW × 1.5 turns those into 4,785 and 5,037 lb. Read that again: every 4,500 lb winch sold for this machine — including Honda’s own accessory winch, a 4,500 lb WARN sold under a Honda part number — falls below the rule for a loaded Pioneer. The 6,000 lb class is the clean answer, and only one of the four verified picks below sits in it. The three 4,500s stay in this guide because owners buy them — framed, honestly, as light-duty/unloaded-machine choices with the arithmetic shown. One pick from the previous version is gone entirely: its listing could not be tied to any maker by our research (no brand is printed for it here, by design). Model-wide context is our side by side guide and UTV winch guide.
How we researched: Honda News and Honda spec sheets for the machine; SuperATV, WARN and KFI part-number documentation for the kits, with every ASIN tied to a maker part number or listing identity by at least two sources; HondaSxS owner records for the accessory winch. We do not test winches. Where sources conflict — kit fitment years, below — both ranges print.
Short answer: loaded machine, real work: the SuperATV 6000 kit, the only pick that satisfies the sizing rule. The three 4,500 kits are documented, quality routes for lighter use — bought with the maths in front of you.
The Pioneer arithmetic (why this guide is split)
| Machine | GVWR basis | GVW x 1.5 | Honest class |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pioneer 1000 | 3,190 lb (launch-reported) | 4,785 lb | 5,000 lb minimum — 4,500 falls short |
| Pioneer 1000-5 | 3,358 lb (launch-reported) | 5,037 lb | 6,000 lb class |
| Pioneer 1000-6 Crew | No GVWR published; curb 1,936 lb + 1,000 lb bed + six occupants ≈ 3,900–4,100 lb working (estimate) | ≈ 5,850–6,150 lb | 6,000 lb class, at its edge |
Run your own loaded weight:
Winch size calculator
Enter your UTV’s loaded weight (machine + passengers + fuel + cargo + accessories). We multiply it by 1.5 to give the minimum rated line pull.
Recovery safety: the Pioneer’s bed is rated 1,000 lb and owners load it — a winch sized for the empty machine is undersized exactly when the day goes wrong. Size for the loaded weight, anchor to rated points, and remember the mount is part of the system: KFI’s mount bolts to the differential brackets with the winch upside down (rope exits between mount and drum) — follow your kit’s manual, not a generic video.

1. SuperATV Black Ops 6000 + Pioneer Mount Kit — Best Overall — the Loaded-Machine Class
The 6000 kit is the guide’s answer for a working Pioneer: SuperATV’s Black Ops 6000 (the winch ranked in our UTV guides) on the Pioneer-specific 3/16 in steel plate, wireless remote plus dash rocker in the box. Its maker part number (60-WM-H-PIO1K) is the strongest documentation in this guide. The fitment conflict prints unresolved: the listing-era sources covered 2016–2021 trims, while SuperATV’s current pages and Everything Honda Offroad list Pioneer 1000 2016+, 1000-5 2016+ and 1000-6 2023+ — confirm your trim on superatv.com at order time.
| Maker part | 60-WM-H-PIO1K (plate WM-H-PIO1K-00) |
| Rated pull | 6,000 lb |
| Motor | 1.9 hp permanent magnet |
| Gear ratio | 266:1 |
| Rope | Synthetic, 50 ft |
| Controls | Wireless remote + wired dash rocker |
| Mount | 3/16 in steel plate; holes 3 in x 6-5/8 in; fairlead pattern 5.98 in |
Pros
- The only rule-satisfying class here
- Complete Pioneer-specific kit
- Best-documented part number
Watch-outs
- Fitment-year conflict (printed above)
- Heaviest kit here
What owners say: Black Ops platform record from our UTV guide research.
2. SuperATV Ready-Fit 4500 (Pioneer) — Best Pre-Assembled, Light Duty
The Ready-Fit is the convenience pick: SuperATV’s pre-assembled Pioneer winch (SKU QWM-H-PIO1K-4500) that minimises install work, with a 6.0 in aluminium hawse and heavy-gauge wiring long enough for four-seaters. Two honest labels: the printed 266:1 is the Ready-Fit LINE’s figure (the winch-only Black Ops 4500’s published ratio differs in our earlier research — do not merge them), and a 6,000 lb Ready-Fit variant exists in the line while this listing is the 4,500 — the class framing from the arithmetic table applies.
| Maker SKU | QWM-H-PIO1K-4500 |
| Rated pull | 4,500 lb (this listing) |
| Gear ratio | 266:1 (Ready-Fit line figure — see intro) |
| Fairlead | 6.0 in aluminium hawse |
| Format | Pre-assembled Ready-Fit kit |
| Fitment | Listing-era: 2016–2021; current maker pages: 2016+ / 1000-6 2023+ (conflict printed) |
Pros
- Pre-assembled convenience
- Four-seater-length wiring
- Documented SKU
Watch-outs
- 4,500 class — light-duty framing applies
- Line-vs-winch gear figure ambiguity
What owners say: Maker and dealer documentation is the record.
3. WARN VRX 45 + Mount Bundle (2016–2018) — Best WARN Route, Light Duty
The WARN route is a listing bundle, documented as one: the winch is the VRX 45 steel (WARN 101045 — 4,500 lb, 198:1, IP68 per our verified pool) and the mount is WARN’s 93790 for 2016–2018 Pioneer 1000s; WARN sells them as separate part numbers, and no single WARN bundle SKU exists. One more caution from the research: a WARN Pioneer instruction variant exists for long-drum VRX-only fitment — confirm which mount variant a bundle ships before printing compatibility beyond the 2016–2018 EPS/LE/Deluxe list.
| Winch | WARN VRX 45 steel (101045) — 4,500 lb, 198:1, IP68 |
| Mount | WARN 93790 (2016–2018 Pioneer 1000 EPS / LE / Deluxe) |
| Rope | Steel cable |
| Format | Listing bundle of two separate WARN part numbers |
Pros
- WARN platform and mount, documented parts
- IP68 winch
Watch-outs
- 2016–2018 mount window
- Bundle is listing packaging, not a WARN SKU
- Steel line
What owners say: VRX-line record from our verified pool research.
4. KFI SE45w-R2 Combo Kit (2016–2018) — Best KFI Route, Light Duty
The KFI route is likewise a listing combo: the SE45w-R2 Stealth wide winch (4,500 lb; the winch-only version is a verified pick in our RZR guide) with a Pioneer mount, wiring, switches and remote for 2016–2018 machines. KFI sells the parts separately (mounts #101965, and the later #102210 which adds fairlead adapter 101288 — two mount generations exist, so confirm which a kit ships). Winch figures are KFI’s: 1.7 hp, 166:1, a SHORT 38 ft synthetic line, 1-year warranty. One research warning: at least one dealer page for a sibling KFI Pioneer kit prints the wrong spec block — buy from the KFI manual numbers, not a dealer page.
| Winch | KFI SE45w-R2 Stealth (wide) — 4,500 lb |
| Motor | 1.7 hp permanent magnet |
| Gear ratio | 166:1 |
| Rope | Synthetic, 38 ft x 15/64 in |
| Weight | ~33.65 lb (kit) |
| Mounts (separate KFI parts) | #101965; later #102210 (+ fairlead adapter 101288) |
| Warranty | 1-year |
Pros
- Complete combo with remote
- Verified winch platform
- Documented mount generations
Watch-outs
- Short 38 ft line
- 2016–2018 window
- 1-year warranty
What owners say: SE45-R2 record from our RZR guide research.
Worth knowing: Honda’s own winch (dealer channel, no button)
Honda sells its own Pioneer winch — and it is WARN-made: the “Honda Pioneer 4500# Warn Winch”, Honda part 08L71-HL3-A41 (the OEM parts fiche lists the successor kit 08L71-HL3-A43 — the suffixes are revisions of the same kit, not interchangeable labels). The mount is a SEPARATE Honda kit and splits by year: 08L72-HL4-A04 for 2016 only, 08L72-HL4-AK1 for 2017-up — per the HondaSxS owner who documented his dealer purchase, the kits look alike and differ in wiring/plugs, which is why Honda insists on the year-correct one. It predates the 1000-6 (no verified 2023+ fitment in our research). Note what it means: the factory answer is a 4,500 — the aftermarket 6,000 class exists because loaded-machine arithmetic outgrew it. (A Kolpin Quick-Mount 4500 kit, part 26-1000, is also sold through Honda dealers — a Kolpin product, not a Honda part.)
Pioneer 1000 winch FAQ
Is a 4,500 lb winch enough for a Pioneer 1000?
For an unloaded machine on favourable ground, owners run them widely. By this site’s sizing rule on a loaded machine, no — the arithmetic table at the top is the whole argument, and it is why the 6,000 kit leads this guide.
Will these kits fit my 2023 1000-6?
The SuperATV kits’ current maker pages list the 1000-6 from 2023; the listing-era documentation stops at 2021 and the WARN/KFI bundles are 2016–2018 parts. Confirm on the maker’s fitment page for your exact trim before ordering.
Why do Pioneers buy kits instead of bare winches?
The mount is machine-specific and the wiring run on a four-seater is long — the kits exist because plate, fairlead pattern and cable lengths all differ. Bare-winch buying works too (our UTV guide), with the mount sourced separately and verified.
Honda accessory winch or aftermarket?
The Honda kit buys dealer fitment certainty (year-split mount kits) at 4,500 lb. The aftermarket buys the 6,000 class. The arithmetic table decides which matters more for your use.
Our verdict
Pioneers, honestly: the SuperATV 6000 kit for a loaded, working machine; the Ready-Fit 4500 for pre-assembled convenience, the WARN bundle for the WARN route inside its 2016–2018 window, and the KFI combo likewise — each 4,500 bought with the arithmetic in view, not in spite of it.
